There are several reasons to look forward to March other than warmer weather! As the month gets closer, Best Buddies Indiana participants are counting down to three great campaigns that are to sure spread awareness and raise the roof for people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities: Best Buddies Month, Disabilities Awareness Month, and “Spread the Word to End the Word.”
Throughout the month of March, Best Buddies chapters across the state and around the world will be hosting events, rallies, cookouts, concerts, and more to celebrate Best Buddies Month and Disabilities Awareness Month.
Best Buddies and Special Olympics are teaming up for “Spread the Word to End the Word,” the campaign to raise awareness about the hurtful and demeaning use of the “r-word.”
People all over the world have pledged to stop using the “r-word,” and every day the number of pledges is getting closer and closer to the campaign goal of 100,000 signatures.
While the official STWETW day is March 3, 2010, Best Buddies chapters are hosting events all month long to present great speakers, pass out t-shirts, and most importantly, recruit people to sign the pledge.
Looking for other ways to show support for Best Buddies in March? Pin a purple ribbon to your shirt or backpack for Best Buddies Month! Sport your Best Buddies gear! Sign the “R-word” pledge at www.r-word.org! Whatever you do, make every day a reason to stand up and celebrate why Best Buddies is important to you! |
